ROCK SOCKET Part 8
This part has been delayed for various reasons - first because I flat didn't have it all done when I'd intended
to post it, and then because I was on vacation and couldn't
post it, and then because I forgot that I hadn't
posted it. Such is life when you don't have an automatic update setup going for you, I suppose. I apologize for the delay - to make up for it, have a double-sized dose of ROCK SOCKET this week.
In this week's installment: introductions start wrapping up (which means in a few weeks there might actually be some plot
, finally - bet you can't wait
), the color scheme gets psychedelic, and Cabot is scary. Of course, Cabot is always scary, as she should be.

ROCK SOCKET: Part 4
Posting early this week to prevent the incoming Canada trip from interfering with my ability to get this comic out weekly.
When last we saw our heroine, she was drawn with the Brush tool at 72 ppi. Today, our story picks up mid-scene with the events now drawn using the Pencil tool at 600 ppi. NOTE THE DIFFERENCE CAREFULLY. However, the increased canvas size and unfamiliar tool resulted in a bit of confused blocking and so the first few panels are a bit more incomprehensible than they should be; what should have been a fairly straightforward illustration of afterimages to indicate speed became something that just looks odd due to a surprisingly large amount of leftover SPACE in the right-hand side of the panel. Them's the breaks; I did
mention I'm learning as I go, and part of that means I'm learning how not
to do things, too. (It looked cool in my head! And in thumbnail form! D: Whyyy does it have to suck in the finished product.) So yeah, it shouldn't look that bad, but rest assured the mistake has been noted and will hopefully never happen again.
This week was fighty time, next week is BLOOD, BLOOD, BLOOD. :3
(Yes, that's a ninja.)

And in apology for missing last week, I made you, the faithful readers of ROCK SOCKET - all ten of you - a v. special wallpaper to use (or not) as you see fit! ( Wallpaper: 1024x768, color, fun for the whole family!Collapse )

I am heartily sorry to say this, but as I am incapable of prepping the latest installment and loading it before the movers come and the computer goes, ROCK SOCKET will be delayed until tomorrow at the earliest.
See you then, and apologies for the delay!

ROCK SOCKET: Part 2
I would have had these up earlier today, but work intervened.
Something I'm aware of but am too enamored of the final result (see icon!) to fix at present is the unfortunate shift in the direction the background is facing in panel 9; by the time I noticed the error, I had already blown past it and was too worried about meeting the launch date with a decent amount of strips to get as upset by that
as I would have been by missing launch without a buffer.
Such are the trials of producing a webcomic - one must learn to tell one's inner perfectionist to shut the fuck up, from time to time, in service of the cause known as deadlines. I have a responsibility to the people out there reading ROCK SOCKET to get installments out in a regular fashion, regardless of errors. I apologize for them when they happen, and I don't intend for it to happen that often, but in the early stages I kind of anticipated a few clerical errors that I would have to rectify later on. This one, as it stands, is glaring but relatively minor compared to the horrors my brain expected to have unleashed upon my poor, unsuspecting webcomic.
But this is likely a problem only I will care about, so I'mma shut up now and let you enjoy the comic.( comic!Collapse )ROCK SOCKET: Part 1View ROCK SOCKET as a Flickr slideshow here!

ROCK SOCKET: Part 1
WE NOW PRESENT THE FIRST INSTALLMENT OF ROCK SOCKET
ROCK SOCKET is a comic done entirely through digital means, and I'm learning as I go. It's a test bed for ways of telling stories in some respects, and as such may not always work. I'm expecting that. I'm also expecting you, dear readers, to tell me what works and what doesn't, so I can fiddle. Because I love fiddling. I've learned a lot since drawing the first six panels, as you will see in the coming weeks, but I'm still fond of them and I hope you are too.
